Support, Safety, Community Education

Domestic violence and sexual abuse can happen to anyone, yet the problem is often overlooked, excused, or denied. No one should live in fear of being hurt. If you recognize abuse, please remember that help is always available.

Stepping Stones is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides community education and support services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, stalking, and human trafficking in Taylor County.

  • We provide a safe environment for victims to explore their situation, plan their safety, and develop their options.
  • We understand that anyone can be affected by violence, so we welcome survivors regardless of their background, race, religion, age, class, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
  • Stepping Stones provides free interpreter services to Non-English speaking survivors.
  • All services are free and confidential.

 

Victim/Survivor Rights Statement

 

As a victim/survivor of violence, you have the right to: As a client of Stepping Stones, you can expect that:
• Be safe and feel safe; both physically and emotionally • You have a safe place to seek help and talk to people for support
• Be treated with dignity and respect • Your voice will be heard
• Have and express your own feelings and opinions in your words • You will be treated with dignity, respect, empathy and honesty
• Be able to use your own voice and make your own choices • Your identity (gender, sexual orientation, race, national origin, class, ability, religion) will be respected
• Be informed about options available to you • You will be supported by your Advocate in the choices that you make
• Be heard/listened to, without judgment or blame • Options will be discussed but the choice of what step to take is up to you
• Live free from fear and violence • All services will be free and confidential
